LPN to ASN Admission Process

LPN's who meet the requirements to apply are welcome to submit an application. The program is competitive and not all who apply will be accepted into the program. The Admission Committee reviews completed files and evaluates them using a rubric. Some applicants may be invited in for an interview by the committee, before final decisions are made. The most qualified applicants will be selected. All applicants will be notified of decisions within 45-days of the application deadline.

The following items need to be submitted/completed in order for you to be considered:

  • Must meet all preparatory requirements to apply
  • Complete and submit the online application and pay the $50 application fee via email or mail - checks can be made payable to St Joseph School of Nursing
  • Typed essay of approximately 500 words - topic on application; do not plagiarize
  • Official High School, GED or HiSET transcript
  • Official College Transcript(s) from all postsecondary schools attended
  • Completion of Employer Clinical Proficiency Evaluation Form (by current work supervisor) or Instructor Clinical Proficiency Evaluation Form (by clinical instructor, if recent grad with no experience)
  • Proof of Health Insurance - copy of insurance card, if card does not have your name on it then additional documentation will be needed to prove coverage
  • Proof of Legal Residence in the US - Copy of US Birth Certificate, US Passport, Certificate of Naturalization or unexpired Permanent Resident Card
  • TEAS (pre-entrance exam) Official Results - register at www.atitesting.com
    • SJSON looks for an overall score of Proficient (58.7) or higher. Individual scores are reviewed as well. 
    • Exam scores are valide for 1 year from the date of the exam. 
    • If you wish to improve your score, you may retake the exam at any time. It is strongly recommended that you take the time to study before rescheduling. 
  • Must have graduated from an accredited school and Board of Nursing approved LPN program or equivalent education
  • If you have attended, but did not complete a nursing program then you will need to get a letter from the dead indicating the reason you left the program
  • Must hold a current LPN License
  • Applicants who attended school in another country must get a CED or WES Official Translation of Foreign Transcripts
  • Applicants born in a country where English is NOT an official language are required to take the TOEFL Exam.
    • SJSON code is 1677
    • Results for the TOEFL are only good for 2 years from the date of the exam. 
    • Passing scores are as follows: 20 in Speaking & Listening; 17 in Writing; 16 in Reading and 73 Overall
    • ONLY a foreign born applicant who became a US Permanent Resident or Naturalized Citizen before the age six may request a TOEFL exemption. A letter requesting the exemption must be submitted in person to the Admission Office along with your original permanent resident card or certificate of naturalization at least six (6) weeks before the application deadline. The exemption will be reviewed and the applicant notified if the exemption has been granted.

For more in depth information regarding each item listed please refer to the Application Checklist. For those accepted into the program, attendance at Orientation and a PN Predictor Exam is mandatory. Accepted applicants must also pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
