ASN Application Process

The ASN- 2 year program is all inclusive meaning there are no preparatory/pre-requisite courses required to apply. Only those who complete the application checklist will be considered. The program is competitive and the most qualified applicants are selected. All applicants will be notified of decisions within 45-days of the application deadline.

Application Checklist

The following items need to be submitted by 12 pm on the day of the programs application deadline in order for you to be considered: 

  • Submit Online Application
    • Pay the $50 application fee via phone or mail -checks made payable to St Joseph School of Nursing
    • Essay of approximately 500 words - topic on application. Do Not Plagiarize
  • Submit Official Transcripts
  • PLEASE NOTE:  All transcripts must come from the institution(s) directly either by email, US mail, or if hand carried must be in an unopened official school envelope with seal.
    • High School, GED or HiSET transcript (required of all applicants regardless of college attendance) 
    • College, ALL postsecondary schools attended
    •  CED (Boston) or WES (New York) Translation of Foreign Transcript(s) (if applicable)
  • Official TEAS Results -(pre-entrance exam) - Overall minimum score of 64 required
    • Register at www.atitesting.com, approximate cost is $120
    • Individual scores are reveiwed as well
    • Exam scores are valid for 1 year from the date of the exam 
    • If taken elsewhere, you must request an official copy of your scores be sent to SJSON electronically from ATI
  • Submit One (1) Professional Evaluation Form- must use school form
  • Submit Proof of Health Insurance
    • Copy of insurance card
    • If your name is not listed on the card, you will need to submit additional documentation as proof of coverage
  • Submit Proof of Legal Residence in US - Copy of one of the following:
    • US Birth Certificate
    • Unexpired US Passport
    • Certificate of Naturalization 
    • Unexpired Permanent Resident Card
  • If you attended but did not complete a nursing program, submit a letter from the dean indicating you were not dismissed/left for ethical reasons
  • Applicants born in a country where English is NOT an official language are required to Submit Official TOEFL Results
    • Register at www.ets.org/toefl 
    • SJSON code is 1677.
    • Results are good for 2 years from the date of the exam.
    • Passing scores are as follows: 20 in Speaking & Listening; 17 in Writing; 16 in Reading and 73 Overall
    • Exception to TOEFL iBT ® - The ONLY exception is a foreign born applicant who became a US Permanent Resident or Naturalized Citizen before age six may request an exemption. A letter requesting the exemption must be submitted in person to the Admission Office along with your original permanent resident card or certificate of naturalization at least six (6) weeks before the application deadline. The exemption will be reviewed and the applicant notified if the exemption has been granted.
